A PRAYER TO LOVE

by: Henry Baker (1698-1774)

      reat God of Love! have Pity on your Slave,
      Indulgent, hear, the humble Boon I crave:
      Extinguish in my Breast this raging Flame,
      Or make my charming Fair One feel the same;
      On Her and Me alike your Power prove,
      And grant Us both Indifference, or Love!
